Presentation & In-service Opportunities

Materials and presentations are offered to SIA member districts only. For a list of our member districts, please see our SIA Information page. If you would like to know about the materials but are not a member, please send us an email at info@sia-jpa.org and we will do our best to assist you.

In-service presentations are one of the most effective employee educational tools we have. SIA provides in-service presentations on a variety of subjects, many of which are listed below. We will modify these presentations to fit your school site's particular needs.

Ritberger Personality Method

What is it that makes the difference in why and how we relate to other people? Learn how personality is that “automatic pilot” in each of us that creates a bridge to understanding ourselves and others.  Personality represents our attitudes, beliefs, thoughts, emotional reactions and coping mechanisms. Based on the work of Carol Ritberger, PhD. And the book “What Color is Your Personality?” learn what color you are – Red, Orange, Yellow, or Green.  Use this information to maximize your emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.

With this training your staff can expect to have a greater understanding of neurological qualities that drive how we gather information and make decisions.  This leads to increased tolerance for differences in the workplace and understanding of communication styles.  The training is delivered in a FUN interactive environment!

Workshops are available in 2 or 3 hour formats.

The Resilient Educator®

As a strategy to help our schools address teacher retention, Schools Insurance Authority offers The Resilient Educator® program. This program is grounded in 15 years of neuroscience and research through the Institute of HeartMath.  It offers scientifically validated techniques that help educators boost performance, improve relationships, and strengthen resiliency. Content of the program includes the role of emotions in performance and health, how emotions drive brain activity into chaos or coherence, how to build and sustain resiliency, effective communication and productive working relationships.

SIA is able to offer CEU’s for teachers for this program and it can be delivered in a variety of ways – as a four or six hour program or broken up into one-to-two hour sessions spread out over several weeks to allow for integration of new techniques. We will provide pre and post assessments to measure the effectiveness of the training.  If you would like information about how to provide this training for your teachers please contact Michele Mariscal at mmariscal@sia-jpa.org or call (916) 364-1281.

Back Injury Prevention

Lifting and moving in ways your body wasn't meant to can lead to painful back injuries. Determine if your ways of sitting, standing, lifting, pushing and pulling are putting you at a higher risk for injury or not. Learn to protect your back by using proper lifting, body posture and moving techniques. Also, learn to keep yourself safe by stretching and strengthening your muscles, so you'll be in shape to make the right moves on and off the job.

Our focus is to help address those physical tasks that are points of concern for supervisors and staff. Don't wait until a "possible" concern becomes an issue. Be proactive by requesting the assistance of our department to address the movements, lifts, and posture, used by you and your staff that may lead to an injury. A typical in-service lasts approximately 90 minutes, one on one and group training may last from 15-120 minutes. In resolving physical challenges the first, most practical and economical step is to modify behavior (body mechanics), before modifying the environment (equipment).

Participants will be lead through a series of exercises using the bands (provided by SIA) and will be provided with a pictorial exercise sheet to perform the exercises on a daily basis independently.

Just Ducky

Do your feathers get ruffled by stresses and storms?  Do you ever feel like you're swimming just to stay afloat?  Would you like to be calm and cool on the surface while still paddling like heck?  Waddle on in to this interactive workshop to learn how your attitude and habits create the weather around you.

Life Balance

What is stopping you from fulfilling your dreams and responsibilities?  Why can life get so chaotic that it seems like it is out of our control?  How is it that there are times when you accomplish many things, yet you feel unproductive?  The answers to all of these questions lie within understanding the twelve areas of life and how to balance each one of those twelve critical areas.  Lack of balance creates distractions; robs attention from tasks, and results in costly and sometimes painful mistakes.
