The CPR and first aid certifications offered through
the American Red Cross are in the process of being updated.
The Red Cross now offers Adult CPR and Standard First Aid that
includes training on the automated external defibrillator (AED).
If your district has plans to purchase this equipment and you
are a certified trainer, you will need to update your certification
to include AED training. All previous training involving AED
has been changed effective July 1, 2001. "First Aid encompasses
how to care for victims of injury or sudden illness."

Adult, child and infant community CPR and first aid is also
expected to change later this year. Changes may take place as
early as August or September but should be in effect by the
end of the year.
If you are a certified instructor, please contact your local
