Parking lot gates continue to be a problem at many school sites.  There have been incidents of unsecured gates swinging open and damaging both moving and parked cars and causing injury to drivers.  The solution to this problem is simple – secure the gates with chains, clamps or latches to prevent movement.

As all SIA member districts are self-insured, the money used to pay for damage to cars and other school property ultimately comes from district budgets. 

Please remind staff to secure these gates when they are both opened and closed.
